Tinnitus Treatment

At Advanced Audiology Care, Dr. Fan offers tinnitus treatment to help you experience a better quality of life. No matter your degree or severity of tinnitus, there is a treatment option available to suit your needs and lifestyles.

Tinnitus Treatment Consultation

As part of your tinnitus consultation, Dr. Fan will ask you questions about what your tinnitus sounds like . This will help Dr. Fan determine an appropriate treatment plan for your specific situation.

Tinnitus Treatment Options

Advanced Audiology Care provides tinnitus management solutions via ZEN sound therapy combined with counseling to help patients reduce the degree to which their tinnitus negatively impacts their quality of life. Other treatment recommendations may include Hearing Devices, and Relaxation Activities.

Widex “The Zen Program.” The Zen program uses fractal tone technology to rewire the brain and make tinnitus less perceptible. It is based on the concept of using certain types of music to relax the mind.

The fractal tone technology uses sounds that are predictable but not repeating. An assortment of chime-like “musical tones” known as “Zen styles” are chosen to play at random. These tones can be adjusted for their tone pitch, tempo, and volume to suit your comfort level.

The Zen program is integrated into the newer Widex hearing aids. Dr. Fan will advise you on the hearing device best suited for your condition.

Counseling. Counseling can benefit patients who have anxiety, depression, or any other psychiatric condition associated with tinnitus. Combining psychiatric therapy with auditory therapy may be the best treatment to relieve your symptoms.

Hearing Devices. Since tinnitus often accompanies hearing loss, a hearing aid is recommended to amplify sound and boost other soft sounds in your environment.  With this combination, the device will help to camouflage your tinnitus symptoms.

Relaxation. Incorporating relaxation activities into your daily schedule can help alleviate the stress, frustration, and anger you may be experiencing with tinnitus because they can help you concentrate on something other than your symptoms. Dr. Fan may suggest that you try relaxation activities, such as deep breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation, to help you manage your tinnitus better. Other relaxation activities such as walking, biking, cooking, swimming, and gardening, also have calming, beneficial effects.

Overall, you should work hard to obtain adequate rest and avoid over-fatiguing yourself because patients who are tired seem to notice their tinnitus more. You should also avoid the use of nerve stimulants, such as excessive amounts of coffee and smoking.
